View Full Version : Euro 2002 qualification
Yesterday Spain played in Greece and won by 2:0 ... our side had a good game and an deserved win.
Raśl opened the scoring after 8 minutes with the goal that made him draw level with seleccion-topscorer Fernando Hierro (29 goals both)
Valeron then made thing clear deep in the second half after a great cross from seleccion-newcomer Raśl Bravo.
Hierro so far did not step back from his retirement but I hope this case will still get discussed since he is a player the NT needs especially for his character.

I have to disagree. I think it's best they let him go now and concentrate on finding suitable replacements.

The problem is that there are no suitable replacements in sight. Helguera performs well in defense but Saez will play him in midfield. Hierro was class in the WC and I think he can give some more time in. But since this Euro qualifing group is so easy it will be a good oportunity to gel the unit together.

I was thinking that with Helguera at his disposal, the shoes shouldn't be as difficult to fill. I'd move Helguera back. Either way, just so long as he includes Helguera. That's the most important thing.
Well ... I agree that it's necessary to find a replacement for Hierro somewhen, and I think that it's possible for example with the mentioned Helguera to replace the player Hierro. But to replace the personality Hierro will be a tough one. He's been the heart and soul of the spanish team and helped a lot forming a powerful unit ever since the sad days of Clemente were finally counted. Therefor I'd like to see him increasing the teams spirit at the next EURO. The next aspect of my bid for a Hierro comeback is a sentimental one. Since I believe in a spanish EURO 2004-success I'd like to see Hierro in the glorious line-up and lifting the cup after all he has done for the seleccion. Well, in that case I'd also bid for a Lucho return. And reactivate Butragueno. ;) :D

anyone know when Manuel Pablo is back? He played well at right back for club and country before he got injured while playing for Depor.
