Mirk, I assumed hardly any American citizens know what soccer is, never mind knowing EPL teams! Do you like American Football?

NFL: Miami Dolphins fan 20+ years now
College: University of Utah (alumni), Purdue University.
Lots of people know what it is, but don't understand/like it. The other grave shift sgt. found out last night that I like soccer. Uninformed bastard...hell, just plain bastard when it comes down to it, told me only communists like soccer. Naturally I told him what I thought...he did not like it, but he did not say anything else to me.
Still like soccer better though...

How can Man Utd be the best team in the world when they lost to PSV?

BTW Young Kezman schooled Silvestre in that Champions League game...

Here is that goal which I know you Man Utd supporters will enjoy very much. http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

When I used to follow Italian football, I dont any more because I find it insanley boring due to the lack of pace and the fact that its more like a game of chess. However when I did I saw Juve get beat by teams much worse than PSV. So dont start with all that!

I don't think any genuine football fans hate Man Ure . What we really dislike is there fans , most of which never go to a game anyway Also their arrogant attitude towards other teams and there supporters.

Enjoy it whilst you can because one thing that is for sure is that you wont be at the top forever . I give you 2 maybe 3 more seasons including this one !!.

You see we have something in common. In ice hockey, there's a strategy called "dump and chase". It's just like it sounds, shoot the puck to the opponents end and rush in and try to get the ball. You see it's a strategy used by teams(or nations) who lack techncial skills, no puck handling ability and really have no other strategy.

Substitute dribbling for puck handling and what do you have?

English football. http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

IT kind of reminds me of when playing football as a child. We had no strategy, and basically just kicked the ball as far up field as we could.

Di Motteo: you might be right, but likely for the wrong reasons. ManU is not getting worse, the competition is getting better. I like that, it makes the league stronger.

gb1520
10-05-2000, 08:48 PM
and why is the league getting stronger? because clubs have to keep up with manchester united, the reds have changed english football, love or hate them you have to respect that (unless you hate english football, in that case ***k off)

Di Motteo
10-05-2000, 11:51 PM
Mirkwood , I didn't say United were getting worse . I do agree with you though that the opposition are getting better , and closer to United . That is why I give you 2 or 3 seasons before your monopoly is broken .

Don't forget that during the 80's Liverpool ( or at least there fans ) thought they would be the best team forever . Look at them now !! Only 1 trophy in 5 or 6 seasons .

gb1520
10-06-2000, 12:12 AM
The reason why liverpool went from great to average was because there reat players got old, and they didn't have the players to replace them and it tool them 3 pr 4 years to get those players. after a couple years of expierience those players are now starting to become greats themselves. but united's team is still young. beckham, giggs, scholes. gary neville, p.neville, butt, stam. all of them are under the age of 27. and with young players like silvestre, greening, and brown already getting some first team action and playing very well. united are in a different situation that liverpool were. this united team will be on top for the next 3-4 years maybe 5. and then it will only take a year or two to rebuild like it did last time. i remember when everyone (myself included) were pissed because united got rid of ince, hughes, pallister, sharpe, konchelskis, and poborsky it seemed overnight. but united had the players to replace them, and united hae the players to replace the team they have now.

Neo

Thankyou Mirkwood.

I will have to agree that United will not be this strong forever and will probably fade out in the next few years.
But I totally dislike the comments what Di Motteo made about United fans. When was the last time I went to a game?....Lets see oooohhh 2 weeks ago! I am not arrogant towards other supporters either, its usually the other way round! i.e Man U are crap but flukey...What is that all about?

BTW, do you know haw difficult it is to get a ticket for man u if you dont own a season ticket? Virtually impossibe, unless you buy them off the black market at about 7times their face value.
Anyway, I would rather be a Man U fan and pay 400pounds for a season ticket than pay 2000pounds for a Chelsea season ticket!

I still stick by my statement and extend it to say that our league is better than both of yours! Unless we are talking hockey or demonstrations outside parliament(that was cool btw) in which Canada and Yugoslavia rule the world in respectfully.

Juve fan: Why am I unreasonable when I asked Mihajlovic why he is'nt Canadian if it says 'from canada'? You are just manipulating anything I say to have a go at me!

mirkwood

Juve Fan: Yes, I think Neo is reasonable. He came here from another site, at my urging. I have been involved in a number of discussions on varying topics which he was involved in, including one with an antagonistic Liverpool fan, and I feel he is reasonable. He just disagrees with you. You and I have disagreed, but are able to talk civilly; give him that same chance, and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Consider this though, the majority of the people who are posting on the ManU threads are here to antagonize/goad the minority of us who are ManU fans. There are also some here who rise to those goads, everytime they are there. I could go to other people's fave team threads and find things to make them irate...but to what purpose?

Di Motteo: OK, I was not sure what you were saying/implying, no slight intended.

And to those of you who continually say, you can't be a true fan if you don't hold season tickets/never been/etc. etc. That is a load of garbage. You don't have to hold tickets to be a fan. I have been a Utah Jazz fan for fifteen years or so now. I live twenty minutes from the arena, and have never had season tickets, and don't plan on ever having them. I have attended 5 or 6 games in that time, but it does not make me less of a fan for it. To say the only people who are real fans of a team are the ones who attend games is ridiculous. There are fans of various sports clubs/teams all over the world, who have never attended or will never have the chance to attend a game live. SO WHAT!?

Neo: Did you know that Brian Griese's dad, is the legendary Bob Griese, who led the 1972 Dolphins to a 17-0 season? The only undefeated team in NFL history!

Juve Fan
10-07-2000, 04:10 AM
mirkwood, I have nothing against Neo, but I just dont like questioning everything one posts.. Even if I or Miha are from Canada, do you think we will cover that because we are ashamed of our nationality ?? Please lets act more like adults..

Neo : Your league *might* be better than lots of other leagues, but whats the point of having a good league if you cant maintain a good National team ?? I mean Yugo's league might not be as strong but they have an equivelantly good NT.. Same thing goes for other countries, take Cameroon for example... They have a weak league but their NT can most probably defeat the English NT..

I was'nt calling the other two leagues atall and did not mean to cause any offence what so ever.
I ahte to be unpaitriotic, but as I said in a recent post, I'm not really an England/international fan anyway. I mean, I support England but, after many hard lessons, I have learnt not to expect much/anything at all http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif. We could have a great England side in a few years if we just changed over to the youngsters, and let them work togther for a few seasons, but ohhh no, we have to introduce them slowly and keep old donkeys in the side i.e Adams, Shearer9until now).

Mirkwood, thankyou for your kind words man, they nearly brought a tear to my eye http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif.
My god that was a big winning streak! The broncs should be doing a lot better but for some reason their not. Its probably because Terral(spelling?) Davis is out.

One of the rare Miami Dolphins fans I have heard of. I have been supporting the Dolphins for 7 years now and don't expect much this year. Our great defense will probably be able to lead us to the wild card game. But I don't expect we will get farther than that, due to the inexperience of jay Fiedley, Lamar Smith and others which are the most important parts of our offense.

mirkwood
