Thierry Henry revealed he was the target of racial abuse and missiles from PSV Eindhoven supporters during Arsenal's 4-0 win in Holland.

Referee Lubos Michel was seen collecting missiles from the pitch which were apparently aimed at Henry as he prepared to take a corner.

PSV Eindhoven are now likely to face a Uefa investigation into the incidents as European football's governing body tries to come to terms with the problem.

It's up to Uefa to react and we have full confidence in them to do that.

Liverpool's Emile Heskey was subjected to racial abuse during his team's Champions League match at Valencia last Tuesday.

And Fulham duo Rufus Brevett and Steve Marlet experienced similar problems during their team's recent Uefa Cup tie against Hadjuk Split.

"They were throwing coins, lighters and other stuff at me," said Henry, who scored twice in his team's victory.

"I don't know if you heard what they were saying or saw what they were doing. It was offensive so I shall just leave it at that.

"I don't want to talk about it because I just want to talk about football - but it's a bit of a shame. I have two ears but you did not see me shout back.

"The referee was doing his business, I was just waiting to take the corners. If Uefa do their business, they will do their business."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also feels Uefa must take action.

"It was terrible and should be banned. I think Uefa will react," said the Gunners boss.

"We did not feel under threat but in every crowd there are always some crazy people.

"It's up to Uefa to react and we have full confidence in them to do that."

You wouldn`t expect that from PSV fans, not even considering the crowd problems of last year. Here normally Ajax and Feyenoord fans are the bad guys. (Ofcourse not all of them.)
PSV is a bit of a nice friendly team according to the press, with a family atmosphere unlike those wild primitives in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. :) Still it is terrible it has happened, I don`t expect that from my fellow country men. But times are changing here.

But he, why should we be different than any other nation?

The claimed tolerance we have here more and more appears to be a joke. We were just as intolerant as any other nation, we just kepted our mouth shut, which is weird because that isn`t a Dutch way to act. Ofcourse it`s very wrong and people responsible should be given a ban from the stadium for at least a year. All of them. But they won`t get any form of punishment.

Nobody seems to realise this has almost nothing to do with football, but just with a shortage of braincells by the people who do it. Ofcourse the passion of (and for) football brings this behaviour to the surface, but the problem is ofcourse society related. Time to really react to this before things get worse. People shouldn`t and can`t get the feeling that they can get away with this. This should be dealt with extremely serious.

PSV probably get a big fine and maybe has to play a homematch a couple of miles away from their own crowd. Like always, the club has to pay for the lack of education, upbringing and manners of "the fans".

This year PSV are very good in the Dutch Championship but in the CL the are very weak!

Well yes, that`s pretty clear, but how can you explain that?

Ofcourse their poule is difficult, but PSV said that the most important goal this year was to go to the next round of the CL.
Is it the team, is it the coach, PSV can`t be less than Bor. Dortmund. They played at home to a German team!! How can you lose? (With respect to the German League ofcourse :))

Give Dortmund credit. They have a very good squad with the likes of Rosicky, Metzelder, Kehl, Ewerthon, etc. They also have a good manager in Sammer. He's really done a great job with Dortmund and I think he's the type of manager the players like. Rosicky is just amazing too. He's one of the best young mids in Europe. They were w/o him too when they faced Arsehole at Highbury. PSV are in a tough group that after Arsenal is pretty well-rounded. They could be doing a bit better, but you can't be too hard on them considering their opposition.

I do think Dortmund has a good team, but its a fact that German teams in away games often play for a point, quite defensively, I think PSV hasd the players to take advantage of that. I saw a lot of League matches from Dortmund and I do rate them high, but PSV should be able to beat them in their own stadium.
german teams are at home in Europe pretty good, but away they are beatable. PSV got a lot of chances but threw them away.
I mentioned they were in a good group, but so are Feyenoord and Ajax. Maybe not bigger names but equal teams. Don`t forget that Rosenborg is a good team, who have beaten a lot of very strong teams at home.

PSV has confirmed that Guus Hiddink again received a threatening letter (a week ago), containing one or two bullets and a frightening letter.

Guus Hiddink apparently said that if these threats continue, he is seriously considering to quit as an active coach/manager.

What can you say about this. I don`t know, it`s just wrong.
A lot of people probably think that the writer(s) of that letter doesn`t really want to kill him, but ofcourse it is treated like they could.

I`m doubting if the writer(s) of that letter (and maybe the first letter adressed to Hiddink) have any idea how serious their action is. Is this treat for real or are it just some idiots who just want to scare him?

Perhaps unappropriate to bring it up, but who could be behind this? I have no idea.

Can anyone tell me much about PSV's Arjen Robben? I've been reading posts on another forum, and they're raving about him. Is he that good?

soccer fanatic
01-09-2003, 09:59 AM
It is early, but he is very good and definetly a good prospect for the (near) future..

Hre had a great year at Groningen especially two years ago, last year (talking in "competition" years) he had a bit off a fall back. When he came too PSV he didn`t look as good as he looked two years ago, he started not convincing at PSV but in the last two months before the winter break he was very good and it was clear Robben is improving a lot. Can become a very good left winger/midfielder in the future, technically very skilled, if he could become less selfish and perhaps more mature on the field.
