No surprise here. Nesta was without a doubt the best defender in Serie A last season. I'd even go so far as to say that he'll better than Maldini one day. It looks that way right now. Not better than Baresi of course, but quite possibly a close second.

I think Cannavaro is another very good defender, but I don't think he's nearly as good as Nesta. Nesta's worked real hard to get himself to where he is today and he deserves all the good press he gets.

Put it this way, how would Lazio's defence look without Nesta? I know Miha will hate me for this, but Nesta basically plays two positions in defence when Sinisa is on the pitch. Negro and Pancaro are descent, but if they didn't have Nesta leading them at the back, they'd be lost IMO. I don't know what it is about those two but I just don't like them, I just don't like the looks of em.

I know if Nesta wouldn't be playing for Lazio, it's defence would be very unstable. Pancaro and Negro are ok, but I believe that Mihajlovic is a class defender, and that people judge him too much by the bad games he played. He is slow, he may not be the best, but you have to look at the long balls that come from the back and who provides them, who starts building up Lazio's play from the defense to attack.

That's my feeling as well Juve FAn. No doubt that Miha has a very cultured left foot and can pass the ball with the best of them. He's a great asset but on the offensive side, not defensively. I don't think he's crap in the back, but if I were to judge him on his defensive abilities only, he wouldn't be starting at Lazio.

Well see the point is like gambine said he of course shows sometimes good skills in defence, but still he is more like a forward than defender.. His shots are always accurate, expecially in Freekicks, if I were the goalie I would just leave the goal. However he is too slow for a defender.. He messes up lots of times and sometimes he doesnt really care about going back.. Remember that Slovenia game ?? HE screws up eaily.. Besides he always gets mad easily, and that not good for a defender.. Defenders tend to beat and get beaten the most so he shouldnt lose his nerves easily..

Miha he scored that goal with allitle bit of luck because the atalanta goalie judged where the ball was heading wrong. I hate Mihajlovic for three main reasons.
1. He is very slow, if he didnt have Nesta covering up for him all the time, Laizo would be letting in 4 goals a game. Look at euro2000 Yugoslavia won all of their games when Miha did not play! When he did play we let in 6 goals in one game all because grand pa Miha couldn't keep up with Kluivert
2. His foot is not what is used to be. Although he scored of that free kick, it was against Atalanta.(team which was in Serie B last year). Miha (the poster at WSB) I disagree with you, in that all of his long balls almost never suceed. Look at Euro2000 not one ever worked.!
3. He is too cocky. The man thinks he is all that wearing his collar up and even dying his hair at euro2000, certainly an asshole.

Mihajlovic sucked at Euro2000, but look against Atalanta, did you see the ball from his own box to Salas in the other end of the half, right on his freakin foot, and the guy misses the whole net. Then the long ball to Inzaghi, I mean , at least give him credit for what he is best at.

I don't know why he is being called up to the national team, young Bunjecevic(who is aslo is a delija), plays the same position as Miha and on current form is better than Miha. Bunjevcevic plays better at a different level. Do you even know what you're talking about ? We're talking about YUGOSLAV LEAGUE AND SERIE-A MY FRIEND. Of course there is a little difference because Red Star is almost as good as Lazio and Juventus, and Partizan almost as good as Parma , and of course Vojvodina just as good as Ac Milan.

To me Nesta is the best defender in the world, and it comes as no surprise that he got the award.
He's the excellent leader of Lazio and for the national team as well.
