Stam is pumped

Lazio trained this morning and after the session the Dutch defender Jaap Stam talked about this coming season, that he defines as the first real season due to the fact that he last season missed several months because of a drug ban.

Stam: "I am finally ready to start the first real season as a Lazio player. Last season due to injuries and the long ban I didn't get the chance to prove my real value to the fans. I hope that I this season will pay back all the support that I have received from everyone in the past year."

I'm expecting a great season from Stam. He played pretty well last year in the short amount of games he played for Lazio. He should be great this season.

Last year everyone was talking that Stam-Nesta-Couto is the best defence in Europe. They played great together last year in their short time so this year will be excellent :cool:

i believe it won't be . But there is 1 problem though , what are we gonna do about ola if nesta stays , he is such a great defender

I think Ola should be loaned out again for another season to gain some more experience, he seems to have a promising future ahead of him.

i feel that stam played an average season but he was a great attacking player , i feel that this season he will get more goals and less cards

Lazio defender Jaap Stam spoke earlier today and here is more from what he said. He spoke about Alessandro Nesta and about the ambition for this season.

Stam on Nesta: "If Nesta will leave us it would be a great loss. Alessandro is the best defender in the world and it would be really difficult to replace him. I really hope that all the rumors and talk are false and that he will stay with us."

Stam on this season's ambition: "I want the Champions League, so we will have to arrive top 4 in the league."

The Dutch defender was also very satisfied with these first days of the pre-season where the players are allowed to bring their families to spend some time at the beach. He said it was a great initiative to start the new season in the best possible way.

Yeah bloody hell it will be strong. I would think in the top 5 in Europe perhaps. Last year we had quite a good defence as well, but they could have played even better

No doubt about it, having a healthy Stam and Nesta will make our defence unbelievable
Not too mention that we have players like Oddo and Sorin who can run the wings and some experience in Favalli and Pancaro
