Well, to be honest, Kahn is the best, Toldo second best...

Toldo
Kahn
Buffon
Casilas

I have to say Kahn too...Casillas is still very young, he could be the best in a couple of years.
Inter goalies should always be Italian, methinks.

This thread has already been posted on the Off Category Soccer Forum...........but since that one has got too big i will leave this one here especially for us Inter fans.

For me the best goalies in no particular order are:

Kahn
Buffon
Toldo
Given(excuse the Irish bias please)
Mondragon(very good last season-look forward to seeing him again)
Canizares
Barthez

I don't really rate Casillas.Sure he saved the pens but he drops crosses with unbelievable frequency and was only playing because Canizares was injured.

Toldo
Khan
Buffon
cañizares (with out a doubt firts than casillas)
casillas :D

ilcapitano

But Canizares is cursed!
That freak injury before this WC says it all...
Maybe Valencia's two losses in CL finals is because of him, not Cuper...:D :sealed:

hehe...no way he is grate..than why if he is cursed valencia won the league tittle ? :silly:

Il fenomeno

Basically, there is only one thing that I would change about Toldo. He needs to be able to start a quick counter attack. Usually he waits alot, and sends a ball in the sky, only for the opponent to get it.

If he can start fast counter attacks with his HANDS, and throw them very long, then it will surely be an advantage. I would say he should become like Fabien Barthez, altough Toldo is better in goalkeeping, barthez starts the game faster...

anyway, FORZA INTER

 I am shocked! Francesco Toldo is by far the greatest goalkeeper on the planet and is also the greatest keeper of all time. Okay maybe not, but I would say he is the best in the world at the moment. My list:

1)Toldo
2)Buffon
3)Kahn
4)Canizarez

5)Casillas (But not in the same league as the above keepers).

socceroo Bozza will always be the best to me:D
too bad Man U never realised his potential:cry:

personal favourties aside,
Kahn (as proven in WC) is the best goalie out there
Toldo and Buffon is a draw for second
and third place would have to go to Frey (again another personal favourtite)

Beck
06-26-2002, 03:49 PM
Rüştü Rençber (Türkiye)
Buffon (Juve)
Toldo (Inter)
Kirkland (Liverpool)

JD

Kirkland?!? maybe 1day but he has done absolutely nothing yet
it has2b Kahn although a certain paraguayan bulldog desrves a mention for his freekicks penalties and leadership

doz

Kirkland has barely played a game for Liverpool so i think it's outlandish to have him as one of the world's best.Same applies to Paul Robinson of Leeds.

How on earth is Casillas not in the same league as the others. He's amazing. Did you not see the Spain-Korea match?

nismo
06-27-2002, 03:51 AM
Cassilas will be up there with Buffon i reckon azulgrana. Watch out for casillas to have a similiar impact as Buffon did

same with Frey, but landreu is also pretty good.

BTW I agree with you Doz222, Kirland and Robinson???? WTF???
neither of those two are even first team starters let alone be in contention for world's best GK:rolleyes:

BLAUGRANA

Casillas already is up there!

nismo
06-27-2002, 04:29 AM
i meant age-wise,
remember how buffon burst to the serieA scene at 17 or 18, he was on the path for goal keeping greatness, and i mean casillas is heading down the same path, and he will be as good as buffon if not better by the time he reached buffon's age.

doz

Casillas's catching and positional skills leave a lot to be desired i think. He hasn't convinced me and he obviously hasn't convinced Del Bosque who dropped him in favour of the more steady and assured Cesar.

JD
06-27-2002, 12:38 PM
Cesar is shite - if he hadn't got subbed Leverkusen would b CL champs!! Casillas saved Real.
I can't forgive Cesar 4throwing in Xavis poor shot in last years derby, a game Real NEEDED2 win.
Real should never have let canizares go but at least Casillas is better than useles cesar

I completely disagree but hey, that's what the board is for.;)

BLAUGRANA

I hate Real, but Casillas is one of their players (along with Helguera and of course Raul) who I covet.

Yes poor old Seaman, that was his last chance...and it wasn't the first time someone scored against him in that way...he has this nasty habit standing too far from the net sometimes.

Il fenomeno

Honestly, who here feels Chilavert is a good GOALKEEPER, besides from his setpieces and goals.... i do not think he is anything special...

He would be if the topic was 'best shot-stopper in the world', but, as Doz pointed out, he is very vulnerable when it comes to crosses and is liable to make mistakes. Until he sorts that out, he can not be counted as one of the very best IMO.

that's why i say give him a couple of years to iron out his flaws
