TURIN, Italy — French soccer sensation Zinedine Zidane has extended his contract with Juventus to 2005, Italian media reported Saturday.
The midfielder, already under contract until 2004, confirmed recent rumors that he had agreed to terms with the Turin squad for an additional year, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.
"I'm very happy," said Zidane, denying reports that he nearly struck a deal to transfer to Real Madrid. "I'll be 32 (in 2005). I think I'll still be able to play."
In addition to helping Juventus win two Serie A titles since arriving from Bordeaux in 1996, Zidane has led France to World Cup and European Championship titles in the past two years.
The Frenchman earned FIFA's top world player and golden ball honors in 1998.
